About

CIMTH’s mission is to advance the art, science and technology of interactive media in healthcare, to empower healthy behavior, to improve healthcare provision for all by promoting pro-active collaborative participation in a healthy lifestyle, and to encourage, facilitate and promote cross-disciplinary research and developmental collaborations. Health encompasses multiple dimensions, such as physical, mental, emotional and social, thereby requiring that translational research* be integrative and multidisciplinary.

Our broader goals and objectives are to:

  • Facilitate multidisciplinary translational research teams to assess the effectiveness of interactive media tools in promoting healthy behaviors
  • Create a centralized resource center to better understand the underlying forces at work (population aging, technology growth, healthcare needs)
  • Promote innovative and unique educational and research collaborations
  • Migrate promising technologies into the clinic, the home and the community
  • Seek and establish long-term funding sources (governmental, philanthropic and corporate)

Working definition for translational research:

“Translational research fosters the multidirectional integration of basic research, patient-oriented research, and population-based research, with the long-term aim of improving the health of the public.” (McGartland et al., Acad Med 85:470-475, 2010)
